Not Everyone Will Understand
When you redefine what success means to you and live your life from that new definition, not everyone will understand.
When you choose to build your business from an aligned, more intentional place honoring your capacity and nervous system…when you say no to urgency,
Not everyone will understand.
And yes, while your community or entrepreneurial friends might cheer you on for resting or slowing down, the subtle pressure can often come from home.
From immigrant parents or aunties who equate hustle with safety and sacrifice.
It might sound like a quiet sigh 😮💨, a worried question, or even a gentle reminder that success requires grinding harder.
That tension can feel like a weight you carry quietly, because you want to honor their story, but also create a new path that works for you.
It can feel like you have to defend your choices. Like choosing your way means constantly justifying why it matters.
And maybe doubt starts to linger…
“Maybe I should just push through.”
“Maybe I should just go back to corporate.”
“Why do I have to explain this every time?”
I often think back to my decision to leave corporate life and step into entrepreneurship. My parents had a lot of doubt and fear about that choice.
Especially my appa, who’s an entrepreneur himself and knows exactly how hard the journey can be.
My dad wanted a smoother, easier path for me, one with more certainty and less risk.
At the same time, I had to re-root myself in my own conviction. Trusting my own dreams and believing in my capacity to build something meaningful.
It was important for me to honor where my parents were coming from: the life they lived, the sacrifices they made, and how those experiences shaped their view of safety and security.
This journey became about holding space for both, carrying their wisdom with gratitude, while carving out a path that truly felt like mine.
