A conversation with my younger self 🍵

I met my younger self for coffee today.

She showed up stressed, her shoulders tight from carrying pressures and burdens she didn’t yet have words for. Chronic back pain made it hard for her to sit for more than ten minutes.

I told her, your body is carrying so much. It won’t always be this way.

She was in her 20s, feeling lost, chasing after security, success…a sense of worth and safety. But no matter what job, relationship, or city she ran to, she couldn’t sit still. She felt stuck, like her voice was buried somewhere deep inside. She longed to create, to express, but something blocked her.

I told her, you’re carrying generations of silenced stories, but one day your voice will flow freely.

She told me she had no ancestors watching over her. That she was alone.

I smiled and said, your halmoni (great grandmother) spirit is here. She’s been rooting for you all along.

She wanted to be a mother but was terrified—that her life would be over. That her career, passions, freedom, creativity, her body would never be the same. That she'd have to give up so much. That she might repeat the cycles she's been working so hard to break.

I showed her glimpses of the future. The laughter, the tears, the sheer power of her creativity, and the deepest joys she’s ever felt.

"Your life won’t end," I told her. "It will expand in ways you can’t imagine."

She asked me, how did you become so confident?

I told her, once you reclaim your voice, you’ll feel unstoppable. You'll remember your power. Remember, you're not alone. I'm here.

I hugged her and told her, you got this. And I love you. Keep going.

And then she was gone. But I know I’ll see her again. 🤎
